The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential."
The word "coaching" is used often and in many ways, but not everyone who does so is equally prepared or ethical - I am proud of my Associate Certified Coach credential from the ICF, who set rigorous, globally recognised standards of training and professionalism.
No one likes being told what to do. In a coaching conversation I give you space to unpack your own thoughts and feelings, and to figure out what is important to you and how you plan to achieve it. It brings both insight and accountability.
My coaching skills are also absolutely key to the effectiveness of my group and personal training, despite these being more instructive in nature.
A coaching relationship can take place over many weeks, or just one or two sessions to explore a particular situation. Just one meeting can easily be the inflection point that steers the course of your life for the better.
Successful coaching depends on 3 key components (which I can help you with):
If there's something you know you need to do - exercise, weight loss, a project at work, a relationship decision - whatever it is; consider working it out with someone who cares, and who will not advise, steer or judge you, but will help you think more clearly by really listening and asking the right questions. It can make a huge difference.
Coaching can be quite logistical and organisational, or also deeply personal. It's a chance to look deeper - the things that stand in our way are often not where they seem.
Coaching can also be a confidential space to simply share and explore thoughts - the things that linger and haunt our minds are often robbed of their power over us when we share them aloud.
